NOP couldn't get the shipment of drugs in time
Don't need it! You now have the Midnight Maserati Marathon! Sub-2:02 here we come!
What a sh!tshow. It really is a shame - this was a great race.
Not surprising tho, hopefully they can bring it back in 2019.
Axiom (the company hired to do operations for the event last year while the investigation was ongoing) wins the RFP, and with the institutional knowledge they already have put on a good, local/regional 2,000-3,000-person half marathon this fall, and then put on a solid, 10,000-person+ half marathon and full marathon in 2019 onward.
But there will be another Marathon in Portland in October including a world record race.

It wasn't so great. No prize money, no gatorade, no elites, no GUs, industrial zone, etc...
More proof that Portland is a lousy running city.
Inaccurate mile markers. What this guy said

Portland is a great city to run in. Unfortunately the Marathon course didn't touch any of that.
There's already a backup plan for 2018 being bandied about. 50/50 on if it gets mayoral support. Things need to happen quickly to get it done.

They should act slowly, or they'll end up with the same turd of a marathon that disappoints everyone. I'd rather wait until 2019 and have them get it right.
No one in Portland would say that the Portland Marathon was a good race. Everyone hated it but it was the only game in town. Just look at the t-shirt. The race director left the shirt unchanged for 40 years. And the course was lazy and missed the beaty of the city.
This guy sucked and it’s up to the city to improve the event

Here are facts.
#1) Copyrighted the race results, pissed off even malmo:
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=6755539#2) Jacked up the entry fees (read this whole thread, it is gold):
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=6732210I run the waterfront and I'm amazed how many people wear the shirt. Come on, why were you advertising for the guy.
It took another year, but what this guy said. Full clean slate. No marathon this year please! It's too late and all RDs or EDs or whatever they call themselves need to be vetted thoroughly.

Although I stated earlier that it was a great race, I have to agree with what you and other posters have said here. It was waaaaaaay overpriced (but the only game in town so ppl unfortunately paid the entry fee) and the course was rather blah - although I didn't think it was that bad when I ran it. Miles 13-16 through the industrial area were pretty terrible, and I understand trying to incorporate more of the city and some attractive neighborhoods - but you could easily end up with 100+ turns on the course, not sure exactly how this could be done?
As for the guy who wanted Gatorade and GUs - those are two of the last things anyone would ever want during a marathon. There are many more superior products out there now. As for no prize money - there's nothing wrong with this. You can have a great marathon without catering to elites, although comped entry to sub-elites would be nice.
Just run the Oregon Marathon through Uberthons:
Agreed. I ran the half marathon a time or two as well as the marathon, and felt the half marathon was a much better course.
I didn't mind the industrial district. Sure it was rather dull, but it was flat and straight, and it was kind of quirky, so what the hell - nothing wrong with it and it was different.
Mostly, though, it was a well run event that got a really good turn-out, and it would be a shame to lose it.
I recall that the course crossed train tracks and that, one year, some runners had to stop because a train came by during the race.
They gave out saplings at the end. As in plant a tree when you get home saplings.
Priorities...

I threw out my PM shirt. Why not donate? I didn't want anyone advertising for these guys.
They wouldn't even let marathonguide or Athlinks display results. They claimed Copyright ownership of the results, something which may have no legal precedent. Does the basketball league try to sue news orgs for displaying basketball scores.
