No, he has just seen the light of the almighty coach js and is letting his HR recover to 120bpm. WORLD KLASS MAJIK!

People forget that many of these fast marathons come down to a kick and the runners are at 60 second pace.
That's not going to appear out of nowhere at the end of a Marathon if not practiced.
Even Deek pulled off a 61 at the end of Rotterdam in '83.
That is so cool to see such a big training group, just getting down to work. Love it.

You've got to remember that Kipchoge's marathon pace is 4'41 per mile (or 4'35 if you count Breaking2). So, he basically did 8xmile a bit faster than marathon pace with some speed at the end. Factoring in the altitude, it was probably more like 8xmile at half marathon pace, with the 8x400 after.
I'm actually more impressed that he still has the speed to run 60-61 with short rest pretty comfortably in the middle of marathon training. I'd love to see him take a crack at the HM world record.
You are right, its not that impressive for Kipchoge. On the other hand, he's running 10 miles worth of intervals at 8000 ft at a pace that most people on this board, let alone in the general population, can only maintain for 30 seconds to 1 minute (depending on the interval). So in that respect, it is a little impressive, just a little.

Kawauchi ran 3:50 in the middle of marathon training. I have no doubt the top-tier elites like Kipchoge are in sub-4 shape at any time. Nothing about this workout is surprising other than its simplicity. A nice reminder that running is a simple activity.
Also, people underestimate the importance of working at mile pace during marathon training. Not for 3-hr guys, but when you start looking at sub-2:20 and faster, developing/maintaining speed becomes fairly important.

That was my thought, too. The large group going through that workout.

on a cinder track
At altitude. With 45 sec rest on the 4's. Only at letsrun is that not impressive.

I know. So obnoxious.
Crazy to see Kipchoge doing 400s to prepare for a marathon. I guess when you're only running for 2 hours and a few a minutes, you need that speed element.
Samuel Wanjiru did weekly 10x400 sessions.
I'm just surprised that flotrack didn't try to lock down the rights.

You don´t understand what they´re saying, do you? This workout is only what is to be expected by someone of Kipchoge´s caliber.
Hey guys,
I'm the owner of the video. The session was the 24 of January in Eldoret, at 7.30am. Kipchoge was good, but Kamworor was in his top shape. No tired, realy impressiv. If you have other questions, ask me.
PS : sorry my bad english.

Why is it crazy? Running fast is running fast, regardless of whether it's for 800m or a marathon. Kipchoge's marathon pace is 70 seconds per 400m so that needs to feel incredibly slow for him. I imagine he's getting down to 60 second 400m pace pretty regularly.

It's not supposed to be crazy....it's a marathon tune up workout. Plus it's also at 8000ft.

It was 3 months ago, and the OP put "UNREAL" in the title.

Because it's UNREAL that he's able to run those times in just a tune up workout. I think you maybe made an assumption here that we all thought he was running all out.

On what basis are you defining it as a tune up workout? What's the difference between UNREAL and crazy, besides semantics?

Not sure what it has to do with anything, though.
