How to recover from overtraining?

    Here’s the back story...

    I used to be about 160 pounds 1.5 months ago, I’m now 117. I’m a 5’6 male. You can probably see by the rapid weight loss that I’ve struggled with an eating disorder.

    I ran a ton and cross trained on top of it all. Sometimes totaling 5-6 hours of cardio per day. I wasn’t eating nearly enough for all of this. Now I’m chronically fatigued even though I’ve been eating properly.

    My running is awful. I can hardly manage 9 minute miles. I don’t understand why my body isn’t recovering. What can I do to get my running back up to par?

    I’ve stopped the disordered behaviors.

    My best advice would be to talk with a real doctor/coach/therapist. I love letsrun, but it isn't the place to be looking for advice like this.

    It's unrealistic to expect a quick recovery from the extreme stress that you put your body under about 2 months ago.

    It's gonna take a while. Your body might have to gain some weight back for your hormones to normalize again.

    I've been in a mini rut before where I ate way less than I exercised and was back to my normal self when I gained some weight back by eating to satiety for about 3 weeks

    What get help said. Please don't take advise on this from a bunch of long distance faggots on the internet. Cease any further exercise until you have seen a doctor.

    This goes way beyond overtraining. If running is part of how you stay healthy, that's fine, but you shouldn't be worried about actually training for anything until you have a serious medical issue under control and you are back up to a healthy weight. It might just take time to recover.

    This isn't over training, you need to see a doctor. Also stop exercising until you do.
