1) How is the weather looking for May 6th?
2) Over/under 2:07 for Mr. Rupp?
Lots of hotties in Prague, or so I've heard.

Indeed.
Why the fvck would you not announce competing in a race?
Why the fvck would Nike even give them money, conducting things this way?
I've been a bike racer with corporate support, and one of the demands made upon me was to do all this marketing crap (luckily before the advent of social media), in order to create buzz around the brand. Given that Rupp has all the personality of wet tar, though, this may be a moot point to Nike.
I guess they're just happy they have an "American" running "well." Take this as you may.
I didn't mean to imply that marathoners that have run fast times at Dubai never run well elsewhere. It's more that they never seem to come close to the times they run at Dubai and lose to runners with much slower PRs at other races. For example, Lemma losing to Rupp at Chicago and Tola losing to Kirui at Worlds. With a 2:04 and 2:05 to his name, one would think that Lemma would have more in the tank at the end of a marathon and dust a runner like Rupp that hasn't run faster than 2:09. Or Tola could dust a 2:06 guy like Kirui. Not the case in reality. It just doesn't seem like a fast time at Dubai translates to similar quality consistent performances elsewhere. It's like the Monaco of the marathons.

They will announce it dude, calm down.
Maybe Galen wanted one last shot at running a marathon at age 31. Galen knows he is past his prime now and that he will never break 2 07 no matter what he does. Galen will be turning 32 on May 8 and will gradually slow to the point where he won’t be able to break 2:10 in about 3 years.
Rupp will not run under 2:08. It's going to take a few more races to shut you guys up but whatever. I guess being utterly humiliated at Boston wasn't enough.

After watching that video, I'm convinced that Rupp is running Prague for the nice historical architecture.
Seriously, can you morans just give it a rest with this idiocy? MOST OF THE ELITES IN THE RACE DROPPED OUT. Is it that hard to understand? The guy has been on the podium in every marathon he has run, except Boston. He has an Olympic medal as well.. f*ck.

Yes, I'm going to assume the pacers are the multiple Kenyans with bibs in the 40's
Juddy just looking at the pacers from last year's race they just have "Pacer Men 1 (or 2)," correct they were Kenyans. The women's pacers were also Kenyan men.
Rupp 1:58:45 in Prague incoming! wrote:
when rupp runs a sub 2 you're going to look straight up dumb
We are not going to see a sub 2 in a big city marathon for a very long time.

Love this. Don't waste the fitness. You can't deny Rupps tenacity.
2:06:12
If it was Rotterdam or Valencia I would say perhaps, but I believe Prague is as hilly as NYC. If Rupp runs a 2:06 there, it will be an incredible effort.

At least I'm willing to engage in dialogue. Ya'll are just name calling and insinuating I have mental health issues -- burn. I actually think there is a conversation to be had here and am interested in having it. Continue to anonymously name call but I'm not into that. I know other people feel similarly on here. There's no need for this site to push the American born labels. In the build-up for Boston, for example. I would much rather have talked about how I was excited to see if Rupp could become the 2nd American in 5 years to grab the top spot. Instead it was, Rupp looking to become first American born winner in X years. That doesn't do anything for me. It's unnecessary.
Do you all just disagree or do you have anything to contribute. We can do a little better than name call if you simply disagree but c'mon that's a little weak. Tell me why you think I'm wrong OR just call someone a name when you disagree and provide nothing on the contrary.
What a beast is Rupp. I now see that there's a make up Boston Marathon the weekend before Prague for those who DNFd due to hypothermia on Marathon Monday . This is truly a Yuki-esque racing schedule for Rupp.

Seriously, I can't believe they created a new Marathon for Rupp out of thin, cold and wet air
Seriously. His compensation and the lifetime welfare of his kids at this point is set. I'm really guessing it doesn't matter how he performs from this point forward - Nike is not going to let his kids suffer. So - I'm impressed that Galen is continuing to push forward. Go Galen!
So Khannouchi is born and raised in Morocco and becomes a US citizen in 2000 at the age of 30 and then in 2002 wins Chicago. I think I would call him Moroccan. The more PC types may call him Moroccan-American but definitely not American. I would not have even bothered with the "American born" label since I would understand that Rupp is the actual American.
Hard course? wrote:
This Prague course is certainly not one for PRs. Most of the 2:05 marathoners have not managed less than a 2:08 in Prague so expect something around 3 minutes slower than potential. It's too hilly. However, I guess since Rupp trained for the hills it will be a good workout.
I ran Prague and don't remember it being hilly at all. Have you run it? What hills are you talking about? Almost all of it follows the Vltava River.
I've run Boston too and Prague is way easier than Boston.
For those talking about pacers, I don't believe Prague has pacers - so I'm not sure what you're talking about. And that's where the time difference might be - between somebody doing a 2:05 in a paced race and 2:08 in Prague. Thank God it's not a paced time-trial like the one that ruined London. It's a head to head marathon that relies on pacing and strategy.
It does have some cobblestones and tram tracks, which are not fun, but Galen did run the half marathon in Prague so he is familiar with that.
One thing that is pretty cool about Prague and RunCzech is that they bring along and mentor newer and upcoming Kenyans and give them a chance to show their stuff.
For those that want to see Rupp run a faster marathon this might be it.
