Hi there! I am currently a junior in high school and am looking for ways to become a better runner. My current PR in a 5k as of this past xc season is 22:42. My PR in the 3k is 12:46 but hoping to get around 12:30 or so. This upcoming xc season in the fall I would like to be running 21s and even try to break 21 as I would love a shot at state. I would also love to be running in the 11:30s next year and also possible make state. I am not a natural runner by any means, in fact what I have done is purely hard work. (I ran a 25 min PR of a 5k freshman year). I, first off, was wondering if this is realistic. Second, any tips for me? This summer I am going to be training more than I ever have; hopefully getting up to about 50 miles. A sample week for me will be: Mon: 30 min easy, Tues: 1 mi wu, 6x800m, 1 mi cd, Wed: 35 min easy, Thurs: 45 min easy, Fri: 6 mi progression run, Sat: 30 min easy, Sunday: 70 min long run. I will also be swimming, biking, and doing gym work. I am trying to watch what I eat and lose a couple pounds just for less weight. I am currently 5’4” and 110 pounds. So if you have any tips that have worked for you or advice it would be greatly appreciated!
