I never used a heart rate tracking watch until recently and while the response in races and workouts is typically what I would expect that marathon chart surprised me a bit. Out of a max HR of slightly under 200 I was almost entirely flat at 165ish the entire race. There was a random up-tick near max early in the race I assume was just noise, and small build up in the last mile when I picked up what I had left but the as a whole the graph is extremely flat.
Other distance races (10k, 15k, half) involved a gradual build up of my heart rate over the course of the race. 5k being the exception where it generally just goes up near max by the end of the first mile and holds.
Just made me curious if there was any sort of 'typical' heart rate graphs for the standard races. Seems like something that would be interesting to glance over.
