That’s a wrap. Go manage your chain of hotels. You’ve earned it, but the luster and his marathon legacy is dead.
There will be no more top appearance fees.

Agreed, he joins Kipsang in the scrap heap

Wait. Kipsang is not dead, just stomach issues. He is still number 2 in the world in my book.
A shame that he doesn't take his training seriously anymore. Go big, or go home.

I love Kipsang but 2 DNFs out of last 3 marathons - I don’t know

Huh? Kipsang was a close 2nd in New York.
Someone please advise him against giving an excuse this year. We've heard them all by now.

He actually didn’t give an excuse this year..just looked disappointed
I actually couldn't believe there was so much discussion about Bekele and his alleged WR chances this year. His all-time greatness is undeniable, but there was no reason to believe he'd still be capable of that.
Can only go to the well so many times in the marathon. DNF when you don't have it. 2nd in NYCM proves this good strategies.
Yet even his shitt$ race today in the heat is faster than Rupp’s pb.
How about Dennis Kemetto; he's also on the scrap heap, but he still has the fastest official time, 2:02:57.

As long as I dislike Rupp, If Rupp had been in the race, he should have run in the vicinity of 2:07 or 2:06 high.

He won the Berlin marathon and barely missed the world record. Top 3 in London for 2017 and 2016. A short lived but still incredible marathon career. It might not match what he did on the track, but Bekele still accomplished some great things in the marathon.
He should definitely quit before he tarnishes what a success he did have on the road. He's 35 years old, still fighting off injuries, and has been running hard since his teenage years. How much longer can his body really go? What is left in the sport for him to realistically achieve?

Maybe you should tell that to Kipchoge.

In the heat?
Pretty much every marathon Rupp has run has been in the heat (all of them worse than today). The only exception was Boston this year, and if the East African dropouts are anything to go by, Bekele would probably have been a goner.
Yeah, Rupp runs very well in the heat for some reason. IN the olympics he almost cause Feyisa
Alberto really screwed up! Hasay and Rupp should have been in focking london. Mo and Rupp would have worked together, and Hasay would have possibly won the race!
Last time I heard he was done he came back to win Berlin in the second fastest eligible time ever.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen has a 1989 Ferrari 348 GTB and he's just put in paperwork to upgrade it
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
