something I've observed in my travels as well as just being a human being living in the USA.
loyalty to the kinfolk is a huge value for virtually every other nationality of people - starting with the nuclear family (highest importance) then secondary family, then the other people that looks/talk/act like them (i.e., same nationality).
interestingly, the only non-western europeans that don't seem to have this trait are Japanese.
why is this? I think it has something to do with protestant determinism and self-reliance, but in this day in age those are anachronistic values. I think a big reason why asians and Jewish dominate over regular "white" people - theysupport family and kin through thick and thin and invest heavily in other members of the tribe. With white people, it's a free-for-all. You've got to make it on your own.
