So I'm a freshman in college, I ran competitively in high school but struggled with injuries and illnesses and stopped running for the most part after graduating. In high school I ran prs of 54 for 400, 2:04 for 800, 4:31 for 1600, 9:55 for 3200, and 15:40 for 3 miles in xc, the most mileage i ever ran in a week was 62, I averaged 40-50 sophomore and junior year, then got hurt and ran 25 miles a week senior year and still ran my 3 mile, 400, 800, and 1600 prs. A few months ago I tried to start running again, but after about a week where i ran maybe 10-15 miles I started having problems with my lower legs, around the lower calf and shin areas, as they would get very tight and sore after 10-15 minutes of running. This problem has continued, and I'm pretty sure its chronic compartment syndrome, but i haven't got it checked out. Anyways, I still wanted to get back into running, so I started doing shorter workouts (which doesn't seem to bother my legs as much as longer running, no matter what pace it is) and decided to enter in an 800 which is now in 3 days. I have only been training for 3.5 weeks and I have ran 7, 6.7, and 9.3 miles in each of the past three weeks, respectively.
"Notable" workouts have been as follows:
March 26: 3x200 @ 30 w/ 60 sec recovery
March 28: 1x400 @ 68, 3 min rest, 4x200 @30-31 w/ 2 min recovery,
April 2: 2x400 @ 60.3 - 6 min recovery - 58.9, 20 min rest, 4x200 @ 36 (cruise) w/ 60 sec recovery
April 5: 2x800 @ 2:16 (90% effort) - 10 min rest - 2:52 (tempo pace)
April 13: 1x600 @ 1:31 - 25 min rest - 2x400 @ 59.1 - 8 min recovery - 61.9
April 16: 4x200 @ 31.7 - 3 min rest - 29.3 - 4 min rest - 27.1 - 6 min rest - 25.8
All other runs have been 1.5-3 miles at an easy 7:00-8:00 pace, and the workout on march 26th was my first run in the past month.
As absurd as it may sound, I feel like I have a decent chance at running pretty darn close to my 800 pr of 2:04, despite only training for 3 weeks at 7-8 miles per week, which really makes me wonder what i could run off of legit training. Based off my workouts does it seem reasonable that I could go 2:06 or under? My race is on Saturday, I will let you know how it goes.
