At one point in my life I was a competitive runner. A couple of years ago something changed, my interest shifted away from the sport. What was once a highlight of my day and my highest priority, turned into something I dreaded having to do. Could have been burn out, could have been personal reasons, outside influences, I really do not know.
Anyways, I have tried on several occasions to return to the sport but have not been able to stay motivated for very long. I have never really been a huge running fan; I never followed the professional scene, paid any attention to the different types of training I was doing compared to others, etc. I was a "yes sir" athlete that did as my coach told me and didn't question it. It makes me wonder if my lack of curiosity means I didn't truly love running, but I just loved that I was decent at it? I do know I miss being able to go run 10 miles in the morning, 6 miles at night, or an 18 mile long run whenever. I think most would agree it's a good feeling being in good shape.
Anyways, that's some background and I am wondering if anyone has dealt with this same falling out with the sport and if they were able to successfully return? If so, how did you stay motivated?
