It takes about 470 gallons of water to fill a standard steeple pit
https://steeplechics.com/facequip.php?drawing=2A steeple pit measures 3.66 meters by 3.66 meters at the the top. The pit has a deep box that is .3 meters long by .7 meters deep by 3.66 meters wide. Then it has a sloping run out that is 3.36 meters long measured along the top.
So... (.3*.7*3.66) + .5(.3*3.36) = .7686 + .504= 1.78 cubic meters of water
1 cubic meter = 35.31 cubic feet
1.78*35.31= 62.74 cubic feet of water
1 cubic foot of water = 7.48 gallons
62.74x7.48= 469.30 gallons
Oops. Steeple pit should hold about 1340 gallons. I swapped one value and left out another in initial calculation).
Formula should be
(.3*.7*3.66) + .5(.7*3.36*3.66) = .7686 + 4.30
.7686 cu m + 4.30 cu m= 5.07 cu m
5.07* 35.31= 179.12 cubic feet
179.12 x 7.48= 1339.81 gallons
