He posted a quick summary on tweeter or instantgram or something. Getting hypothermic and dropped around 18 miles. Congratulated the winners. Class act.

Yeah, he's not personally obligated to do anything besides run and whatever is above the signed dotted line, so I'm not going to throw any shade at Rupp, but all you have to do is watch Shalane's interview where she is graceful, humble, and human about facing obstacles and, as a sport's fan, you can't help feel more connected to her and distanced from Galen.
In the end people may not remember exactly what you did, or what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel

Congrats to those who toughed out the conditions and honored the race and their blessing to be on the starting line. Too many flaked out today because they lost the mental battle. Accommodate for the weather, accept your time will be minutes off from ideal, but ya know what, you're a PROFESSIONAL athlete, honor that, hold your head high, keep the interviews brief and congratulate those who ran. I still can't rationalize how many of you fanboy support DNF's because "it wasn't their day, better to be safe.." Where the F*** do you see this in any other sport? So, You're watching your favorite sports team, and their star player decides to pull the plug on the game in the 2nd half of the game because he isn't feeling great and he's thinking about a game a few weeks away, or just wants to regroup. Every single person watching would lose their minds and question their integrity and character, yet in road running today, it was "the smart move" because the weather was bad. Sorry, I can't support that.
Nailed it.
Given how most interviewers can barely stop themselves calling him a doper to his face, and would no doubt not start with a comforting arm around his shoulder commiserating him on it not going well yesterday, is it any surprise that he doesn't want to talk to the media?
the dosage increase only works within one hour of your ego being tarnished. he had no time to waste in silly flotrack interviews

You are of course welcome to your opinion.
No, you are missing the point. Rupp is not self-employed. He does not get to do whatever he wants whenever he wants. He is a Nike employee and is paid a lot to represent the brand. As one of America's best distance runners he is very visible.
Acting poorly when things do not go your way does not reflect well on him or his employer.
Nope. Not sure why this is so hard for you. Rupp gets paid by Nike. The person who’s opinion matters in terms of his value to Nike is not you. Your opinion doesn’t mean s#it. Nike has been paying this guy for a long time. They know who he is. Rupp has been doing Things his way and gets paid a lot of money. What you think he neeeds to do is false, because he’s not doing it and it’s still ok with the key people at Nike. if what you are saying were true then he would not be getting paid by Nike, but he is. Reality, dude. Embrace it.

His marketability is zero. What adverts have you seen him in? He gets a big contract due to his performances and he is Salazar's pet.

Galen doesn’t want to feel connected to you. He doesn’t care how you remember him. Why would that be important to him? It seems like he cares a lot about being connected to his wife, kids, family and others that are close to him. He does not place a high value on the opinions of strangers and internet trolls. He’s doing it right.

Sounds brilliant. He gets paid a lot of money and gets to do as he pleases.
Kurt Cobain did everything he could to avoid interviews, and he was extremely marketable.
Internet dude is telling a decorated professional athlete how to be a professional athlete. LOL

Rupp has missed opportunities to be one of the biggest American running stars ever.
Ans maybe he just wants to run and keep to himself. That's his call.
He really isn't likable.
He's awesome. Just not likable.
Nothing he said was out of context and for once on here was actually was a rationale thought loop in regards to athletes. Show me another sport where that would be supported?

Exactly, it shows your true character. It is Real easy to do an interview when you win, but when things go wrong and you have a bad day and you are still cordial and do an interview it speaks volumes about who you are. Shalane was of course disappointed but explained what happened and will now move on, she did not run and hide. I hope she runs another marathon and has a positive result before she transitions into the next phase of her career.

WTF?? Rupp is NOT in another sport and he IS being supported (very well, by the way). Why are you people denying reality.
Again, i say, internet dudes telling a decorated and well paid professional athlete how to be a professional athelete. LOL!
Who gives a s#it what internet dude can or cannot “support”. We all have opinions. None of our opinions mean s#it in this context unless you happen to be the guy making decisions at Nike. Guess what? You’re not that guy.
Rupp is a private guy and likes to keep to himself, yet I’ve read and heard of a number of people who have had very positive interactions with him. He has been kind, gracious and humble. I myself have seen interviews with him and he has been the same. He does what he wants and it works for him. He doesn’t need internet dude’s approval. Good for him. I love it.

Cobain also wasn't a 5' 11" dildo with ears.
Since John Utah is 100 percent wrong about virtually everything he posts, the fact that he is almost killing himself to defend Rupp here is an indirect indicator of how crass Rupp's behavior toward he "media" is (and I use quotes for obvious reasons -- FloTrack? Letsrun? Really now).
If Rupp had a blanket policy of no interviews, that would be one thing. But when he runs well, he's happy to spend a few minutes giving a scripted speech for the cameras and thanking his coach and his sponsors and the good God above and whatever. That he demurs only on the few occasions that he lays an egg out there is a bad look.
Some of this is Rupp's inherently reticent personality, sure. But a great deal of it is that NOP runners are in effect put on a communications lockdown by Salazar when they sign on. This is not in dispute. Rowbury lost whatever personality she had when she joined. Rupp, Cain and Jenkins never had any in the first place. Salazar had been putting the kibosh on interviews with Rupp since his college days. They use Ken Goe as a their unofficial PR agency of one and that's pretty much it.
Yes, they've enjoyed loads of success. Perhaps they will all look back one day on the years they were little more than nonverbal hamsters on wheels and various borderline or outright illegal substances, and believe that it was worth it. I don't think most of them will see it that way, because they are more human than Salazar himself is.
