Care to reword this sentiment?
What a race and exhibit A as to why they're run.
Desi's comment that she felt horrible the first 2 or 3 miles and might drop out later was amazing. Yuki's first mile and his growing confidence before the race that the weather was going to be so crappy is the ultimate running story.
Whey they panned back to Yuki after Desi's win and I saw what looked like Kirui's white parachute behind him I've never been so shocked watching a race.

Why did Molly not do so well in this weather? She is used to this weather, and has trained in similar conditions. Those tough, cold NYC half marathon races, etc.
I'm absolutely shocked that she didn't win this type of race.
Did Molly finish?
Fom the international feed on NBC Gold.
Reporter: "What an incredible comeback, how did you do it."
Yuki: " I never gave up. I knew he was up there. I could see him and I just ran my own race. I ran the way that I run best and I ran him down."
Reporter: "In awful conditions too."
Yuki: "For me, these were the best conditions possible. "

Very low body fat and weight in freezing cold with strong headwinds, it makes total sense.. It's also not shameful, you're just an idiot.
Good point both winners are powerfully built........not running skeletons
I'm a running skeleton, and have raced well (Up to 20 miles, anyway) in these conditions and worse. You just have to dress for it - duh.

Des waiting back for Shalane was awesome. What a classy athlete.
She has no chance of winning anyway.

Yes. Ran 2:50.

Classy? I just think that's stupid from a strategic point but smart from a marketing point.
They aren't training partners.
If it was Weldon, I'd do it. Should the hold field stop and hold hands? I would have cuagh tup a lot slower.
Have they hit halfway yet? WHy arne't they talking about pace?
honestly love going back at these, no shots at anyone as I'm wrong on stuff too but l0ol
The word "COLD" is banned from use in all weather broadcasts nationwide. You should know this. How does this look when its reported this is the coldest Marathon in last 30 years! You should all be thrown out of office and sent to the gallows. Where is my GLOBAL WARMING!

So WTF happened to Kirui?
Was there really a 90-second gap, or did the splits get screwed up, maybe because of the weather?
Well, Kirui ran his last mile in 7:18 while Yuki ran his last mile in 5:12. This site has splits and results if you're interested:

I knew I'd end up vindicated. Take that rojo!! ;)
If Yuki doesn't keep the pace honest early on, he probably doesn't come back from the dead and win it in the end. Shows what the announcers know criticizing him early only for everyone else to run out of gas. Still shocking to see Kirui fall off so bad, but hats off to a former champion for sticking it out to the finish line after being passed and clearly running on fumes. If he's the only E. African to finish, then he deserves just as much credit as Yuki does.

We'll he's kinda right, she looked in rough shape during the anthem and during the interview - shivering badly. Poor girl
Jessica Chichester from the mass (non-elite) start has moved into 5th place overall in the women's race.
The USA now has 7 of the top 8 women.

Any chance a woman from the field beats Desi's time?
Great question. There should be some women in the later waves who have a shot at beating 2:40.
