His name means 'courage' and is pronounced Yu-u-ki as if there are two 'u' sounds.
Did Abdi drop? Is that him in the yellow shirt way back? hard to tell.

Please note the female Japanese woman they have not made mention of ,she has covered every move and stays hidden the pack letting others break the wind.

I'm running for time and thinking of doing a 45-60 minute run. By the time I finish, will the two elite races be over??
Rupp has spent as little energy as he possibly could so far
Yes, I'm in Europe and watching for free from olympichannel.com.
Go for a run, you won't miss much. Bekele isn't in this race. Tamarit Tola is the best runner here. He will pull away in the next 35 minutes.
We timed the bathroom break door opening to door opening of being 13.86 seconds. A few more seconds to get there and out.
Before the bathroom break Shalane Flanagan appeared to ask Desi Linden if she could leave the course and use the bathroom.
Then when she got back on course, Desi appeared to slow and help Shalane bridge the gap. Nice sportsmanship.
Halfway for the men is 1:05:59. Still a big pack -- about 15-20 guys up there -- including Rupp, Abdi, and Shadrack Biwott. Felix Kandie and defending champ Geoffrey Kirui are at the very front.
any (sub) sub-elite stories?
I've got a friend who has been trying to break 3 for half a dozen 'thons now, missing it by a minute
of all the races, she is actually on pace today through the first hour at least
she pulls this off, gonna be epic, dang it looks so nasty out there
I wonder if you are running in the middle of a pack if the weather barely affects you, somehow still getting the cooling effect but protected from wind?
Men just hit halfway
Men’s race

5K: 15:01 for Kawauchi, 4-second lead over the pack. The rest of the pack had been catching up to him, but then Evans Chebet makes a big push and he takes the lead and starts to pull away from everyone else but Kawauchi (who is still with him).
Mile 4: 4:57 Chebet leading. Chase pack catch Chebet by mile 5, and it’s about 10 guys up front.
Mile 5: 4:53 (24:25) Tola pushing the pace. Down to about eight guys up front -- Tola, Kirui, Lemi Berhanu, Wilson Chebet, Rupp, Desisa, and a few others.

Mile 7: 5:01 34:13 Chasers have started to close them down, lead pack much bigger than 8.

Mile 15: 6:05 (1:30:42) Linden now making a surge, starting to gain some separation from chase pack. She is making a long push. They’re trying to close the gap gradually but it’s still Daska well out in front.

This has got to be the strangest marathon ive ever watched
Only following via this thread, but I love it when the elements play a big factor. This is not a race on a perfect track in a controlled environment. The more external factors, the better, IMO, which is one of the reasons I love Kawauchi, when he recently ran essentially solo in the cold and snow
Wow gutsy run by Linden.
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
Des Linden: "The entire sport" has changed since she first started running Boston.
Matt Choi was drinking beer halfway through the Boston Marathon
