The UK is chicken to go beat up on all its former colonies and duck real competition from the USA, Germany and Russia.
In fairness, the USA is chicken with the Pan Am games too.

What are talking about? The 4 parts of the UK: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland compete against each other. Australia usually wins the most medals while the Caribbean and African countries usually beat them up in athletics.

Birtwhistle wins silver in triathlon for Australia. As a junior he ran 8:08 for 3k at the age of 17 and at 20 ran 10k in 29:23. I think he was as good as Tiernan and McDonald as a runner but chose the triathlon path. Well done to him!
I wonder why Ireland refused to join given their historical and current ties with the UK. They were under British rule until 1922, still speak English by default and are not much more than a glorified county of the UK in terms of the media markets.

Yep. They were flag bearers at the ceremony.

Swimming is where most of the medals are.
Mauritius and Bermuda have medals but Kenya doesn't! Not looking good so far.

800 years of oppression and a british military presense in the streets to this day makes it a an easy decision. Ireland doesn't play to the british "empire"

Some people don't like being colonized.
The Scottish should quit the UK and join the United States as an overseas territory.

Mostly I was talking about chickens, actually.
Wilby of England wins gold in the 200m breast stroke, beating a Scot and favoured Aussie.
Australia win gold in the women's 4x100m freestyle relay by shattering the world record to finish ahead of Canada and England.
But England has had the best night in the pool winning 4 gold medals on Day 1.
When does athletics action start? I want real sports, not this country club nonsense.
Also, please keep us updated on the lawn bowling competition.

Instead of counting down seconds, they had an aborigine kid count down 65 thousand years. Aborigines are the oldest living culture in the world.
Not true. Khoisan have been around for 110,000 years.
