Evidently he gets his talent from his mother.
Mitochondrial DNA comes from the mom :)

I'm not judging him or his parents for coaching him like a pro (if they even ARE coaching him like a pro). I'm just saying that we should back off a bit and see how he does in the next few years. A 4:11 is phenomenal if he's done it just based on his genetics and if he did it in a competitive race where his first three laps were in 4:20 pace, and if he did it off 15 mpw training, and if he's only really picked up running in the last few months. But if he's a 'mature' 16, and has been training 50mpw since he was 12, and if the race was an even-paced time trial, then we might not expect him to improve that dramatically.
Let's just all calm down, back off a bit and let the kid be a kid. Hope he's not reading these message boards getting a complex!!!

Please post pics of your mom first. Do it yourself first, then ask others if they will do the same.

As clever as science thinks it is and as famous as Vaughters comments are on Dan Martin being Stephen Roche's Sisters son. It's not quite that simple. What if I told you that Dan Martin's Father rode in the Olympics and only finished 4 spots behind Stephen Roche. Or that Nicholas Roche who is Stephens son and thus wouldn't have inherited his mtDNA was a perennial top-10 contender at the Tour De France for many years. Pretty incredible to think that a World Class rider like Roche would marry an unathletic woman who would happen to have the aerobic engine of a world class athlete to pass onto their son Nicolas as well wouldn't you think?
What about the Centrowitz? The Coghlans? Incredible given the rarity of sub-4 milers to think that Matt sr. and Eamonn Coghlan just happened to marry average woman who had the aerobic efficiency to pass onto their sons and create second generation sub-4 milers, don't you think? There is a lot more to genetics than that overused mitochondria soundbite
Please tell that to Matt Centrowicz.

Not bad but bro, you need to get out more.

Sr.'s toughness + mom's sprint speed = unmatched kicking ability.
It's all a crap shoot anyway. Drew Hunter's brother is decent, but not even close to 4:00, despite same parents and coaching.
The dude abides, kinda wrote:

Sorry your mom laughs at you along with everyone else.
While not quite as impressive as 4:11 as a Sophomore I noticed that Reuben Reina just ran a 9:56.56 for 3200 in Arkansas this past weekend. Be cool to watch a Reina/Culpepper matchup in a couple years at a big national meet
Young Reina is a Freshman, so the 9:56 is pretty solid for his age

It is solid but who did he get his mitochondrial DNA from? Apparently this is all that matters according to some clown.
This is how we improve American distance runners. Fast runners need to have babies together and raise them at altitude. Get out of Portland, Webb!

Mullen invite 4/7/2018, yesterday, Culpepper's fellow super sophomore, Cole Sprout = 4:12 @ elevation 5400 feet.
