Cruz Culpepper of the legendary Culpepper family, just ran 4:11 as a Sophomore at the Texas Relays. Will he be another stud high schooler?

Started in the back and worked his way up.
Wtf
Not too shabby.
his mom was something back in the day.
Deadly
See everyone...great genes! Cruz picked his parents wisely. ?
Pretty sure she is still something today. Runners age well.
Is he related to Alan?
He's Alan and Shayne's son.
I can't believe he's 16.
Anyone else really excited about this?
4:11 will be top what in the country for sophs? Cruz has great genes and born at altitude. I wonder if we ever had any April fools thing up about him being the future.
Ugh, this makes me feel really old.
I wouldn't get too excited. Just like Jakob, he's being trained like a pro at only 16 years old. So it just means that he's realising his peak potential earlier - and that there won't be a big step-up when he gets to college or pro. Doesn't mean he's going to be the next Bekele.
And this thread analyzing his fun run time http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=1509165#1509341

The Culpepper's are good people. Cruz if the longest of four brothers.
I went to HS with the guy who still holds the HS/World record for the mile for age 15. That is James "Jim" Arriola in June of 1974 ran 4:08.8 (actual mile, not a 1600m mile). I think one of the reasons that record has stood for 44-years is that when a guy who could challenge it, like Cruz, turns 16 before the track season is in full swing.
A list of US HS sophomore mile times is at the link below; it is from 2009 so other names belong in the list.
https://trackandfieldnews.com/discussion/archive/index.php/t-126004.htmlSo 4:13+ for a mile.

Which puts on the short list--the post above yours--of the fastest sophomore mile/1600 guys all-time in the US.
He's not being trained like a pro, his coach at Niwot high school probably doesn't have him do more than 25-30 miles a week. Kelly is good with coaching high school kids and Cruz is immensely talented. He in the past has cared more about tennis than running anyways.

At lease he's clean. Without drugs Bekele wouldn't have been Bekele. That's becoming more obvious with each passing year.
