Hi everyone,
43 year old guy running my first Boston marathon looking for pacing advice. Two years ago I ran LA for a 4:12 after hitting the wall bad. I was very disappointed with my race as you can expect and decided to train seriously and change my diet around. My most recent PR’s are 2:52 for Chicago last October and 1:18 for Disney Superheroes Half. I am doing a modified Hanson’s Advanced training plan for Boston with a goal time of sun-2:50. I just did my final long run 22 miles at 6:16 pace on a course with rolling hills so I am thinking about changing my goal to sub-2:45. I have had some good track sessions in the last few weeks where I have set PR’s during repeat workouts with a 5K at 16:35, 2 Mile at 10:23, and 1 Mile at 4:57. I also did a track LT tempo run 10 miles at 5:46. I also did 3 other 20-22 Mile Long Runs in this cycle at my original GMP between 6:27-6:28. I peaked at 120 miles the week before last week and did several weeks around 90-110 miles. Currently starting 3 week taper. Do you all think I should go for sub-2:45 or should I stick with my original sub-2:50 goal? Most of my Boston Marathon veteran runner friends say Boston is not a good course to try to PR on. Also.. any advice for how to pace Boston would be greatly appreciated.
