When will this dude learn? Mofo goes home devastated every year there, the race doesn’t even have a prize pool smh.

Maybe you don't understand.
It may be that there will not be any finishers ever again.
As they say, “if you have to ask, you don’t get it.”
Tough weather year. One runner broke his collerbone. Water so deep in tunnel, a runner completely submerged after losing footing. Probably started getting hypothermic. Fog makes visibilty near impossible.
Nothing to learn. Gary isn’t a very good runner or Ultrarunner; he won’t be winning any big races or ever be able to run with top guys like Sage. etc. This isn’t meant to be insulting, it’s just what it is. Yet he still makes a living as a “professional” Ultrarunner. Which is pretty remarkable and good for him. He deserves to be congratulated for that. Most of his “fame” (such as it is) is due to the media coverage of his running BM. So, even though he’s never won or finished, it’s still lucrative for him to keep going there and getting the attention from that.
he has some first place finishes and a FKT on the Wonderland Trail.
Does Sage have any 100 mile 1st place finishes? Strange take down.

It's because of his beard. If he didn't look like a hillbilly, people wouldn't follow what his doing. Have to give credit for the great branding.

Where did Gary run in college? What are his PR’s for 5k, 10k, even a marathon? Because I won a bunch of local 5k races that means I am in the same league as Bekele? I must be right, because I won a race, that’s your point right? If you think Gary is as fast as Sage you are an idiot.
This seems to be an event that attracts attention freaks and posers
Actually now that I think of it, a perfect event for M Rossi
He has run Western States faster than Sage ever has.

Needs a bigger stage to 'plug' into.
Nothing like a post about Barkley to get all the road runners riled up. You know, the same big, bad road runners who think "Heartbreak Hill" is a tough hill and the NYC Marathon is a tough course.
Surprised we haven't had the "give an elite Kenyan a year to train and they would destroy Barkley" post yet.

Let's see how the Kenyans do at Lake Sonoma in a few weeks.

heartbreak is a tough hill if you're running to your limit. For someone who does ultras and routinely stops for snacks, probably never digging down past an easy aerobic level, heartbreak might not seem that tough.

I remember in one of the videos on him (maybe the Wnderland Trail FKT) they talked a bit about his running background. He didn't run in college. I think he played a lot of Hockey growing up. Then he got into running as an adult and just went after it.
Huge differences between Barkley and Lake Sonoma.
Barkley:
100 Miles (in reality it's probably 120)
Very, very, very little in the way of non-technical trail
Weather is a wildcard
13,000+ feet of climbing per 20 mile loop (67,000 if you finish all 5 loops)
Lake Sonoma:
50 Miles
Almost all non-technical trail
Weather is usually really good
10,500 feet of climbing over 50 Miles

The Newton hills are a joke, even when you're running at your limit. Damn flatlanders ...
