Masters Indoors is over, so I'm moving from 400m training to the 800m at USATF Masters in Spokane in late July. I have 4 months to train. What are your suggestions?
Background: Recent 400 in 1:07.xx. Recent 800 in 2:56 (with flu and no 800m-specific training). Probably 2:50 if healthy. 10 miles per week on three track workouts per week. Longest intervals have seldom been longer than 300m. My goal is to run sub-2:40 in July.
My initial plan is to replace one of the track days with a long run of 60-75minutes + several very hard hill reps in the middle. And to replace another speed track day with short tempo runs with very short recoveries. i.e. 2 sets of 6x400m with 30sec recovery @ 3k pace. I'd keep one track day for short intervals. I'll also add 2 easy trails runs/week of 40 minutes and increase to 20mpw. I'd adjust this again in late May.
Thoughts?
