Saw a while back that Rupp is despised for sitting and kicking, especially in half-marathons. True just did the same thing to Letsrun darling, Ritz. Will he be appropriately chastised by the board?
PROCEED!!!

I prefer to see racers mixing it up with one another, rather than a sit and kicker, for sure. In this case, though, I am willing to let it slide. It was True's first half-marathon race, so sitting back and staying conservative does make sense.
If he starts sitting in for all his future halfs, yeah, annoying. And he will lose a small amount of respect from me. As if anyone cares about my respect.

You're a shill for the site with nothing better to do in life. Sad.
When Solinsky sat-and-kicked a particular runner in breaking 27:00, he was pretty much deified on these boards. The name of that other runner eludes me right now....
Looks like the weather wasn't Ritz Certified, yuk, yuk...oh, I'm sorry, too soon?
The Ethiopian sat on Sisson's shoulder the entire 2nd half. True didn't do that.
Wow some people on this board really love to shite on the winners in our sport, I've never seen anything like it on any other sports-related forum. Today it's Ben True, the other day it was Fred Kerley, last week it was Rupp. I think some of you should really see a therapist.

This is really only a consequence of two groups.
One group utterly despises Rupp, and regardless of what he does, will criticize him (i.e. When Gebrselassie, Bekele, Solinsky, True, etc. use a sit and kick tactic, they are celebrated for winning, but when Rupp does the same, he is demonized).
Another group appears to be incredibly annoyed by this, and go out of their way to point out each incident of hypocrisy (i.e. When Runner X does something that Rupp is criticized for, they will point out that no one is criticizing Runner X).

The wannabe butthurt energy is what drives this forum. You either have to accept that as part of the culture or move on.

Observer bias you moran. You notice people shittting on runners (regardless of whether they deserve it or not) but you have no data on whether it is the same people shifting their ire every week or just new people throwing out opinions.

Most people on letsrun turn conversations into dumpster fires anyways with their nonsense negativity so it would not surprise me.

For what it's worth Ben True has risked (and missed out on) multiple WC and Olympic teams pushing the pace in the last mile of 5,000m and 10,000m races. I always thought sit and kick would have benifitted him more but he's a gutsy dude. I guess we'll see if he stays that way in the longer road races. Remember that he has already done a lot of road racing at 10k and below.
You don't like a winner who sits and kicks? Come up with a strategy that works against it instead of complaining. No style points in running and no rules against sit and kick. Start here, get to there. Get there first and you win. That's what makes this sport great.

Hi Rojo/Wejo
In his post race comments, True was pretty clear that as a first time half-marathoner, the strategy was to try to hang in for 20 k then battle with whoever surged. Smart strategy for a newbie to the distance.

like Rupp in the marathon minus taking over from much father our
Sit and kick is the norm though right? Front running solo is infinitely more difficult and demands not only confidence in the ability to set your own (faster) pace, but tremendous mental strength.
In addition if you are a dominantly and consistently successful front running exponent you will most likely be accused of doping.!
Sit and kick in reality means run with the pack for the vast majority of the race. Having said that I abhor watching a race where one athlete sits on another throughout the race without contributing any of the pacemaking.
well, let's look through you.
how woukd you go about winning? And setting a pr at the same time.
