You might say that he was sometimes tactically inept (as in Moscow) or that someone was simply faster on the day (as In Los Angeles). However, to basically say that he was somehow physically incapable of winning Olympic Gold (when he as two silvers btw as well as European Gold) is simply ridiculous.

Actually, if you did your research then you’d know Coe wanted to run this race, it was prevented from doing so by Andy Norman, the meet director, as Ovett didn’t want him in the race!

Lol. The link shows Aouita breaking the 3000m WR, and you said this was something Coe never attempted. True. But by the same token Aouita never attempted to break Coe’s 800 or 1000m world records. It’s not a difficult train of thought to follow.

Never seen Aouita run an 800m from the front. He always sits back which unusual since he runs from the front in other races.
Given his prowess at 5000 and 10000m, does anyone know if Aouita ran any road or XC races when at his peak?

I am sure Coe avoided races against Aouita as well for whatever reason e.g. money, scheduling or injury.
Just because Aouita didn't turn up to certain races, how come Coe didn't turn up in Aouita's 1500m/mile races?
The same argument could be said for example why did Coe run in the 1984 Zurich mile race instead of the 1500m if he really wanted to race Aouita?
Too many people blame Aouita for dodging Coe.

The 1500m was the long sceduled race with Coe beeing the main athlete in it. Aouita also wanted to be in this - probably relatively late. Really! 1977. 1978. 1979. 1980. 1981!!!! 1982 (partly). 1983 (partly). 1984. Two middle distance world beaters. From the same country. The country with probably the biggest interest in middle distance running in the world. One year apart in age. No races against each other. Often both racing at the same meet. But for sure, the only fact worth mentioning is that Aouita, who - apart from Coe - has raced almost EVERY middle and long distance great (at all events from 800m - 10000m) from the 1980s has dodged... The fear is almost comical.

Coe's 800m PB is still 3rd all time.
I'm surprised to see Aouita is still the 19th fastest runner all time in the 1500m.
Lost all credibility? The clue was in the punctuation - 1989? was a suggestion, not a definitive statement. Also, whilst I agree that 1985 and 87 were great years for Aouita, why not pick a year where he annihilated an extremely highly regarded WR that had stood since 1978? His 7.29 was a revelation especially given how long he'd been trying to get Rono's record.

His two best seasons were clearly 1985 & 1987.

Let's be brutally honest - both were protecting their egos. Given that Aouita was totally upfront about doing the 5000 in LA because it gave him his best chance of winning a gold medal, not sure he can be regarded as stronger or tougher than Coe.
To be fair to Aouita, the LA 5000 was one of the toughest races to win in those Olympics. 13.05 back in 1984 was an unbelievable time, particularly in a major championship final.

13:05 now in a major race is still fast.
Aouita won it with ease showing he was head and shoulders above the rest in the 5000m.
Why did Aouita race Cram in 1985 in Nice?
He didn't know Cram was in great form?
It seems like a race he would have avoided.
