I would like to be a disabled runner by a hero across the finish line of a marathon. What pace should I run to maximize my chances of encountering a runner in need of being a hero in the last few hundred meters of the race?
I feel like if I'm running too slow, I'll be mostly around slow runners who aren likely to bonk/collapse. If I go too fast though, I'll be around the jog/walkers who are overtaxed and wanting heroic assistance.
I'm thinking about running 5 hour pace most of the way, then hammering the the last mile at ~10 minute pace. This will allow me to get behind a lot of faster moving potential heroes, then pass a whole bunch of them coming into the finish. Is this a good plan? Is there a better pace to target?
