Hi all,
I'm having a bit of a panic over what shoes to wear for the London Marathon (April 22). I'm super difficult to fit for shoes, but I've never had this much trouble. This is also going to be my 5th marathon, so it's not like I'm new to this.
Since the new year, I've been running in some Brooks Ghost 10s. Prior to that, I was running almost exclusively in Hoka Clifton 3s for over a year. The Ghosts felt good in getting me through most of my marathon training, but all of a sudden I've noticed that on my left foot I can feel the ridge where the sock liner meets the back of the shoe at the heel. It doesn't cause pain or anything, but it's just an annoyance and I can't seem to shake it. And I don't want to be thinking about that little thing for an entire marathon.
I had previously ordered a new pair of Ghosts, intending to use them as my marathon shoe. However, I'm noticing it with the new pair too. So now, I'm 5 weeks out and not sure what shoe to use. I went to a running store and tried a bunch of shoes and ended up with some Mizuno Wave Rider 21s (nothing really felt like it fit), but I can already tell the tightness where the logo is in those will bother me, so I'll probably return them. I also ordered a pair of Hoka Napalis (basically the Clifton 3 but with a new upper) and think those may work, but I'm not sure if I'll stress about switching from the Ghosts so soon before the race?
Has anyone encountered anything like this before? What do you all think I should do? I'm travelling from the US for the race, so I'll have plenty of other logistics to dress about, and would love to stop thinking about this!
Thanks!
