Needs something to do after he DNFs London.
(Really, I'm a KB fan but think he is done!)

He needs to go faster than 46:10 to get the single age world record.

Yeah, he had the DNF at Berlin but it's not like London last year was terrible. I think expectations are always so high for Bekele so when he doesn't get a WR/spectacular win its a failure..
He is on the downside of his career but i think he still has the ability to pull out a few more good races. Plus i think he has something to prove after Jos Hermens blasted his work ethic last year
I for one can't wait for Bekele's 10 mile race. He needs to do more of these. He should get at least 3 races around that distance in before he does the marathon again. It will literally sharpen him up. He is the best runner ever. I was thinking of going on holidays to Ethiopia some day, and staying in his hotel.

I was curious whether he was still running this since it was announced before London and half expecting him to say he injured himself there or something...but as of today looks like he is still running (although most of the article is about his business).
Any predictions on time or just get an easy win?

"Literally sharpen him"? Sounds dangerous for the people running next to him in his next race.

Guess I was wrong, went out in 61 and finished with a 68. At least he didn't drop out. With good pacing he could probably run sub 46.

yeah, i think he could definitely be in the 45min range. My guess is he will just go for the win and pick up the pace in the last few kms
I can't wait for his race. It will be good for him. If the pacers in Berlin are as stupid as the London pacers, at least the pace won't feel to bad for the first half, with some shorter speedy races in his legs to prepare. It would be good to see him do under 45 minutes. That would be a great confidence boost. I also recommend another half marathon and 10k before Berlin. Bekele always was the greatest runner. It will be nice to see him fly threw the 10 miles.
Another world record for him?

If Berlin is his next marathon, i agree that a couple more shorter races would be good as prep

The course is by no means easy - a fair bit of elevation, twisty in the old town section, and some off-road bits. It's a great race, but hardly renowned here for producing really fast times... Last year a bunch of 61min half runners barely/didn't even break 50 minutes, so 45 is very unlikely to happen.

Good to know...what's the course record?
I think Geb did 47 flat in 2013. If it's hilly and some ofroad sections, then Bekele will do really well. He is good at hills and XC, so is suited to it perfectly.

The thing is, he used to be good at that but hard to know what to expect these days....When is the last time he did something hilly?
Will Alan Webb be there?

46:04 by Zersaney Tadesse in 2004. Not 100% sure that was on the exact same course as I know they made some changes a few years back.
Geb won here in 2013 in 47 dead, so there's plenty of scope for slightly-past-their-prime Ethiopians to do ok here.
