Yep. Einstein refused to recognize the validity of quantum mechanics and so wasted the last several decades of his life from a work point of view.
Wrong. Like the physicist said above, working hard to disprove a theorem is incredibly valuable and in fact absolutely necessary. In fact, it is the essential way real science works. His efforts, whether anything was disproved or not, were a success as far as physics is concerned.
Not only was it not a waste of time, it--along with the rest of his work--was the best possible use of time, from a scientific perspective.
