35 years old.
First marathon I was woefully under trained and ran a 4:31.
Second marathon I ran 25-30 mpw and ran a 4:00:56.
Ran my last marathon on about 25-30 mpw running 4 days a week and hit a 3:56. I went pretty conservative because I really wanted to go sub 4 and not tire out at the end. Feel like I could have pushed 3:50ish if I hadn't held back as much.
Normal training week consisted of a long run, mid-long run and 2 3-4 mile runs. No speed work, just slow miles.
Some day I'd love to be able to BQ. I'm far from it right now but haven't pushed the limits with training.
Has anyone experienced making a huge improvement like going from a 4 hour marathoner to a 3hour marathoner?
If so, what did you do to ignite the change? I know everyone is different but I'm just curious how likely this kind of jump in time would be.
Thanks!
