I was at the meet, had a girls 4xmile. And yes, the splits were ALL taken at the finish line this year. In years past they had cameras set up at each exchange zone. So no, the splits are not accurate.

The fastest on the B squad was faster than the A team's slowest (the guy who opened with 4:28 for 1636m), meaning Loudon should've broke 17 today.
They (Loudoun, not Loudon) should've run 17:05 and still broken the record.
No, they should've broken 16:55.
No, they should've broken 16:50.
Blah, blah, blah!
Give us a break. You should've kept your worthless "should've" opinion buried. Loudoun Valley set a national record. FACT.
Each race is an independent entity. Did you see the winning time in the recent World Championships men's 1500? 3:58.19! That translates to a 4:17.17 mile. So...Samuel Tefera of Ethiopia - the winner of the World Championships - would have been Loudoun Valley's third or fourth-best? Yeah, right!
You can't compare fastest A Team vs slowest (opening, running in a scrum) B Team performances, just like you can't judge PRs from one World Championships race.

Yep. But someone today is telling everyone within earshot that Loudoun should've won by 30!
Because of the confusion over splits, I asked for explanations in a separate thread. It looks like the Loudoun Valley mile splits were approximately:
4:23.51
4:16.62
4:11.06
4:10.63
Thanks to everyone who helped to clarify these splits.

How were the exchange zones marked? Did they move some tape each time they handed off?
