The BBC just announced the death of Roger Bannister (6:30AM EST). (I´m sure more details will come, but I wanted to get this information out there. Such an important person.)

RIP. Great man.
Sad news. Brasher, Chataway and now Bannister. All gone. A link with the past broken.
But what memories...
THE race.

If you have a spare four minutes watch this If you don't have a spare four minutes, then you should find the time!
We run, not because we think it is doing us good, but because we enjoy it and cannot help ourselves...The more restricted our society and work become, the more necessary it will be to find some outlet for this craving for freedom. No one can say, 'You must not run faster than this, or jump higher than that.' The human spirit is indomitable.
RIP great man.
Such a great video. Thanks.
Thank you for sharing the video. We have it up on a splash page for Sir Roger.
The 4 minute mile captivated so many people and inspired so many people.
I met Sir Roger once while in college and it was a big deal to me.
Maybe ten years later my mom called me. She was at some event and Roger Bannister was there. This wasn't some sporting event. I'm butchering the story a bit, as I don't remember the details, but it was some dinner honoring a bunch of young bright minds. But she called me to tell me how she asked one of the people at her table who they were most impressed to meet and the person said, "Roger Bannister".
I love the story that for the longest time he sent a necktie (or something along those lines) to every new sub 4 miles.
RIP
I've seen that video many times over the years on the BBC and it never gets old
You set a standard. Going to medical school and the training you did must have been tough.

Roger was an inspiration. RIP.
His book made me think I could conquer the world.
The "Father" of Track and Field...
Thank YOU !
Cheers
RIP...
Rest In Peace.
And his training was so minimal, around 20 miles/wk when he did this as I recall.
That video is still amazing to watch, over 60 years later. The style of the race is a striking similarity to the way that Cheserek ran his 3:49 indoor mile. Nobody but the man and the pacers, with the crowd going nuts over the final lap.
Let's all go out and run today, as a tribute to this legend. In what way could we possibly honour Roger Bannister better than by doing that one thing he loved, and we love the most?
somewhat ironic that today is the world mens 1500 final, i would be stunned if there wasnt some sort of moment of silence before the race (or at the start of the session).

How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
