Found a pair of ASICS Hyperspeed 7 and loved them. Of course they’re discontinued, does anyone know of a shoe that’s similar? Did ASICS replace them with another shoe??

this! wtf asics
only reason I can think of they discontinued is that maybe because they are too old school by now, as little EVA foam as possible, they feel too hash in very cold weather - also there seems to be a split between people who liked the HS6 vs the HS7
basically I am watching elites sponsored by asics to see what shoes they switch to, but they probably have them stockpiled so might be awhile
there seems to be a renewed trend for lighter shoes now so maybe something will emerge in 2018, reebok floatride racer, altra escalante racer, etc.
if price is no object adidas sub2 but I ain't paying $180
the problem is all those shoes are meant for racing, the HS7 could actually be used for some training

Doesn't help that they've shifted their focus from an athletic shoe company to a lifestyle one. They didn't resign Jorgensen or Montano and have Steve Aoki as the current face of the company with the "I move me" or whatever ads

Ex-actly! They went downhill after Ryan Hall stopped running. The Hyperspeed, after all, was tailored for him.
ASICS has replaced HS with the 451 aka Hyperspeed boa pretty much. NB kept 1500 and added 1500T2 with the boa More tactfully. Both aimed to get triathletes to pay more cause ‘much boa dials’.
If you like the flat that you can actually train in, then my advice would be NB1400 or Saucony Fastwitch. I own the latter, the ‘posting’ doesn’t do anything/I’ve seen pictures where it’s cut apart and it’s just paint on the outside. Don’t last a million miles, but as long/longer than HS6

If you've run in the New Balance 1400 and/or Skechers Razor, how would you compare those to the LyteRacer? Especially in term of that sweet spot of not too firm, not too pillowy. Thanks.
I have a wide foot current trainer is Ghost 10/ Caldera/ Launch. The last 1400 version I had was over 3 years ago and I remember it cut in too sharply on the lateral forefoot and it had lower volume. I briefly tried on the Razor 1 and it didn't really feel like the rolling feel I would get with Adios Boost 3 or TS7. I think lower drop shoes are good for everyday shoes or some runs for strength but for pure performance having the 8-10 drop like adios, ts7, vaporfly helps with moving you into the stride.
The TS7 is supposedly brought over from Japan so its detail and quality are on point. They may be close to an ounce heavier but the construction (midsole, drop, response) makes up for it.
Its a shame they discontinued Hyperspeed, it was the best shoe out there weighing only 5.5 oz and excellent cushion. Thankfully I stockpiled it and still have 3 pairs alive (1 new unboxed, 1 little worn (indoors only) and 1 with 3000+ (yes, three thousand) miles and counting).
If anyone has US9 size Im willing to buy them.

Funny, when the supply started to dwindle down I could only find size 12 (I’m usually a 12.5) and definitely could not get away with even half a size smaller.
So if anyone wants brand new HYS 7 in size 12 I got em!
I was apprehensive about sharing how many miles I have on mine with the notorious trolling on here but I think it’s in the few thousands as well. No injuries and I’m afraid of stepping into another shoe as I feel they’re more or less an extension of my foot at this point.
Was given a free pair of NB 1500’s from my local rep but with my low arches the post is just too much. Have trained full time in the Saucony Type A series in the past and have two seldom worn pairs but with higher mileage they seem to give me pain in the bottom of my feet. The Hyperspeed seemed to have the perfect balance of cushion, low weight, and an unobtrusive ride plus the upper seems virtually indestructible. I can see why Ryan Hall designed them the way he did, they inspire me to run fast. I’ll keep my search on and keep bumping this thread. In the meantime I guess I’ll keep running in them until my feet start to poke out of them.
wait you have thousands of miles on a single pair of HS7?
I'm not mad, I'm amazed, I mean it's the least possible eva foam, that should be impossible, unless maybe you are only using them on a soft track and not the road?
not sure if I am giving away a secret but the Hyper Tri is supposedly a clone of the HS7, I've never confirmed that personally though
the upper seems to have some extensions made for triathletes to pull it on/off easier
otherwise it looks almost identical
it's discontinued too of course but might be possible to find odd sizes for it instead of the HS
Asics has disappointed me lately, both with their trainers and racers. When they discontinued the Hyperspeed I switched to the Saucony Type A, which I found comparable. The Asics Piranha is also a decent Asics racer (which I believe are also discontinued now, but you may be able to still find a pair out there).
I probably have around 1,000 miles on my Hyperspeeds. What I think I've learned about shoes and cushioning is that the more of it a shoe has the sooner you need to replace it. When you have a heavily cushioned shoe you are counting on the cushion to absorb shock. When you have less cushioning you're relying more on foot placement to reduce shock and you can run in a shoe whose cushioning has worn down. I ran in a pair of Asics Sortie Magics, a Japanese racer with very little cushion, for years. I didn't use them every day but did use them multiple times in a typical week.

I have bought Hyper Tri also as these were closest to Hyperspeed in terms of weight - but though they are quite close, they are not 100% the same smooth riders.
And yeah my Hyperspeeds are in 3000+ mile numbers and not on track but on road and even some gravel. I even managed to run a trail race in them few months back. Though now they are close to disintegrating (hole in forefoot of sole and sides) they still hold together somehow. To make up for cushioning loss after few thousand miles I added a layer of foam rubber beneath insoles. It cost me close to nothing and I allowed me to squeeze out extra 1000 miles in them.
Yep same here. Purchased them in June of last year and other than a 2 week training break in August, been putting 80 to 100 mpw in nothing but the HYS. Plus I agree the “worn out” shoes are the specialities (support, overpronation, etc.). When you start out with nothing in the way of specialized shoe bottoms, there’s really nothing to lose except some tread which it had minimal of in the first place. I live in an area of the country that never gets snow or ice, just freshly paved asphalt and groomed dirt trails so no real need for it in the first place.
Agree with the guys who put high mileage on the hyperspeed. When the 5 was discontinued, I kept on running in them and now have close to 1800 miles on them. Pic attached:
Looked for years for something close to them and only fully retired them last year when I started wearing the NB 1500v2 which is the closest I've got in terms of the smoothness of the ride.

the eva is doing nothing for you after 1000 miles, you must have really strong feet
you should just find whatever sub 4 ounce track flats or xc flats that you like and run in those because it's about the same level of cushioning at that point
I can easily feel the different between a fresh pair of HS7 and a pair with just 300 miles, the toeoff has zero bounce to it and it's like a rock.
Altra Vanish-R
It's significantly lighter than HS7 and actually has more responsive cushioning.
I run in the Asics Sortie Magics almost everyday. I got 6 pairs of them. They are not a cushioned shoe. They are a very firm feeling shoe. But they work for me. Got them in Japan.

I do the same thing several times a week. They are available on the internet.
Hey Yokohama - maybe you could help me figure out the sizing for the Sortie Magic's? Do they run wide or narrow? My Hyper Speed 7's are a size 10.5 and fit perfectly. Any idea if they fit like the Sortie Magic's?
