The Notre Dame frosh ran a 3:58 DMR split, after running ~4:05 in high school. Didn't run freshman xc (or track I think), only started running as a sophomore. Went from 14:52 on the track his senior year to 18:00 6k XC (not sure his 8k) in college.

Holy sh** dude Cheserek won nationals as a true freshman after winning footlocker twice. This guy got 19th in his region. Go take your shrieking hype to Flotrack where you can talk about how he'll run the next "insane" DMR leg at conference.
you do realise that a dmr split is 1600 not a mile right
moran

Well said, and thanks for the perspective. No comparison whatsoever.

Thanks Sean Carlson, you are doing a great job of promoting your Notre Dame men's group on Letrun. Another school collecting talent and doing jack with them.
I will give him a lifetime PR of 3:57 indoor mile and 3:40 outdoor 1500. Great times and possibly placing at nationals but not the king.

Nobody’s gonna give him anything cause he hasn’t run those times.

It could be depending on where in the exchange zone he received the baton.

Incredible post. Your post reminds me of the text I got a few years back when Fisher was in HS, it said, "Fisher's not even the most talented guy in Michigan." A friend was at a meet and saw Donavan Brazier run and thought he was unreal.
Tonight at NCAAs, Nuguse - a true freshman walk on - just walked down a totally fresh Grant Fisher and others in the DMR to grab 2nd. Unreal.
Kid looked good, that’s for sure.
But how is a 4:06/9:06 kid a walk-on at Notre Dame? Tonight’s DMR not withstanding, they’ve been terrible for 3 years and those times make him their best recruit in the last 5 years. I would think he’d have to be on athletic aid there (unless he’s on all need based aid).

He looks at least 20 years old in that interview. Still younger than Ches was as HS senior (21 or 22 as a senior). You guys fall over each other, your virtue signaling via fawning over the imports.
Nuguse is a great guy, and super smart as well, calculus whizz and 32 score on ACT. Biochem. major, and good future when done running. Seems like a really nice guy too. Low key and unassuming.
Actually in the video, the strange thing is, his biomechanics don't look impressive - somewhat splayed feet, and seems to run on his heels.
Not dissing here - Nuguse probably has a great tank, but his technique poses questions.
Just looked at him (Youtube) racing for N.D. in a cc. race. Looks a lot better when in racing mode. Looks more like a heel striker though.
Can he become another Mo Ahmed ? Not sure..but Mo has a super long stride and is more forefoot/midfoot when racing.
Yep, he looks older than your rypical frosh, but that is often the case with people who originate from Ethiopia/Eritrea/Djibouti/Somalia.
haha told you guys (I was the OP)

Also know as the Horn of Africa. Come on, Ghost. Of all people, I would think you would just say Horn of Africa rather than rattle off a bunch of countries.
Watching him in interviews reminds me of a skinnier, black Alan Webb.
Agree with the poster that said his form in that human interest story does not look great, but shows how much you can[‘t] tell from things like that.
Does anyone know his age? It matters for predicting his upside. Is he 18, 19, 20? If he is 18, I think he could be one of the best in the future.
Thanks for that link. He reminds me of a cross between Alan Webb and Steve Magness in that interview. Super smart guy and obviously an incredible talent to crush Fisher like that.
