I went into the gym tonight and bench pressed 225 x 9 with no bounce off the chest. I'm about 160 +/-. What will my max bench be? Over or Under 280? (Currently doing 50-60 miles per week but will drop back when I max out my bench in about a month)
When I was younger, I could do 4x 10x 225 and then 3 sets on the decline and 3-4 on the incline (175lbs on the incline).
When I started lifting, my goal was 275lbs (bet with friend) but I was able to do 2x315. The guy that bet ($50) me was the spotter- he was an unusually strong guy who thought he knew everything abouting weight lifting and excellent spotter. I didn’t try to do more after. I was fine doing 225 and not getting injured- I was about 160 lbs. So, if you work on it, you should be able to do over 300lbs. Make sure you have a strong spotter when you try your max!
Now I’m about 155lbs and 20 years older and haven’t weight trained regularly in over 10 years. I did try bench pressing a couple of months ago and I can’t do 135 lbs more than 6-8 times.
