Incredibly impressive.
Let's hope he hasn't peaked for the season, and is able to take down the outdoor record this year.
WOW
Thought he was at the PA Indoor State Championships... he is entered in at least two of their races today

Yeah, apparently he scratched out of the state meet. I live near the PSU track, so when I saw this thread title, I was kicking myself for not going to the meet before I saw that he ran it somewhere else.
Unreal!
Older brother transferred to Oregon from Penn State last year. He's already committed to be a duck.
I bet he breaks 4 in mile before Hasty does
wow!! would've just missed the olympic finals!! give him two (or six) years and we've got another great American 800 man!!

Haha yeah i ran against him in XC states but haven't gotten to watch him race. Kid is ridiculously talented with speed and the younger brother is going to be good too.... Ok another note, a soph ended up running 1:53 at PSU... Jonah Hoey ran 1:56.. the 800 in PA is crazy this year
Great record but why miss your state meet. Was the coach ok with this. His younger brother was there.

coach was def ok with this.
As a fan of the sport for decades, this is the first distance record set by a high school athlete that I haven't been able to see run on video beforehand. Thanks, Floblock.

He ran 1:47!
Current times are not a good predictor of his future ceiling. He may have reached it now. No one knows the depth of their talents until they've maximized their training potential so it's too early to tell.
ee
The Ducks would need him this year for their DMR
...actually, this would rank him 4th in NCAA this year (6th if we include overdose tracks), so 100% of the DMR teams would need him.
Looks more like 11th and Virginia Tech has 2 guys faster so they don't need him. Unless his time gets a conversion

Well Virginia Tech is just one team, among multiple teams that could take the win at NCAAs. He would absolutely be a useful 800 leg for almost every team.

As someone who has loosely followed the Hoey bros running careers, I was always confused why they kept transferring high schools. Do you have any information on this? Did they disagree with the coaching philosophy at Malvern Prep and Downingtown?
Does their dad coach them and they just compete under the Shanahan name?
