I am preparing for my first Boston Marathon this year. I am using the Hanson Marathon Method Advanced Plan. I read on the internet about a BAA uphill/downhill 2-4-2 tempo workout. 2 miles uphill at tempo run pace, 8x 0.25 mile uphill 6-8% and 0.25 Mile downhill, followed by 2 miles downhill at tempo run pace. I want to sub this workout for one of the Hanson’s marathon pace tempo runs. Has anyone done this workout on a treadmill? What kind of pace should I run uphill vs downhill vs my goal marathon pace (6:29)? Also, what percentage uphill grade should I use for the 2 mile uphill tempo(I am thinking of 4% as that seems to be the average grade of the Newton Hills)? I plan to use -3% grade for the downhill running(biggest decline setting the treadmill has). Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions about this workout.
