I have no words - Jury Awards $37 Million To Family Of Korryn Gaines, Woman Killed By Police In 2016

I'm all for law and order and generally support our police, but the police did not have to shoot at her (they fired the first shot) in serving a warrant for disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor. There is clearly a culture of excessive force in the policing of our country, and it is generally race-blind.

In many instances police use excessive force. This is not one of them. If she had a knife then sure they don’t need to shoot. But a shotgun is a deadly weapon.

Pigs should be held accountable for their crimes each time, not just this one.

The pigs responsible for this man's death should be executed in front of their children.

The Police claimed she pointed a shotgun at them. You buy that and repeat it as if it were a proven fact. Apparently those that heard the case, the jury, did not buy this story.

What's the line from the "Top Gun" movie; "don't fire until fired upon." Just because someone points a gun at you doesn't mean it's a foregone conclusion that they're going to shoot. This lady hadn't shot anybody or discharged the weapon when the police arrived. She was probably scared of going to jail on the arrest warrants and having her son remanded to social services. The police should have known this, backed off securing the perimeter and established negotiations.

Without knowing anything about this specific case, the evidentiary threshold for convicting a cop of some sort of threshold is quite high, so there are lots of situations were a police officer didn’t technical break a law even though a jury might find them responsible in some fashion and liable for damages

Do you think? ? Larger cities are usually loaded with their astronomically high sales tax & all (I paid over $2,000 in city sales tax the other day on a new $25,000 car!). This could be chump change for them.
