I was trying to figure out who the hell Quamel Prince was as I'd never heard of him. After doing some research, I came up with the following stats.
He just graduated from Tenn State where he never made NCAAs.
1:51.26 in HS, 1:50.63 as a frosh, 1:48.41 as a soph, 1:48.23 as a junior, 1:46.76 last year.
Googling around some more, I came across a great article on him on Citiusmag about him that was published yesterday. It says he popped the 1:46 last year after the NCAA season was over - after being stuck in the 1:48s for 3 years - a few weeks after getting a new coach.
A local coach in TN, Dave Milner, who had been watchign Prince run since his HS days reached out to him for a very simple reason. “It’s a duty to the sport— not to let somebody that talented slip through the cracks,” said Milner.
They got together at a Waffle House and a few weeks later he was a 1:46 man. “All I did was take out half the workouts he was doing and replace them with easy runs and he went and popped a 1:46 at my meet…I think that was in there the whole time.," said Milner.
Anyways, read the great Citius piece on him here:
