Is anyone in this camp? If a runner is training intelligently (appropriate volumes, workouts, easy days are appropriately paced) but is not improving, could it be because that runner should actually run less frequently? I have gotten into a routine where running is a habit, much like brushing my teeth. I often end up with very long, multi-year running streaks before taking a day off. Now approaching my late 30's, I feel like I should plan a day off each week. When I step back the whole idea seems to make sense to me, since I have hit a bit of a plateau. Could running 6 days per week actually make me faster?
My focus events are 800m - 10k, but primarily race the 5k. My mileage is typically 45 miles per week with no long run, but maybe 3 or 4 eight mile runs each week. A 4 miler is an easy day for me. Is less actually "more" this case?
