Bottom line is that your Chiro is not off base (the sciatic nerve has several branches which originates from the spine and one of these branches will innervate the hamstrings muscle complex). I would (and I did) see a sports medicine physician . You will likely get an MRI. Surgery is generally reserved for cases not amenable to aggressive medical and PT care. You CAN recover from this with the right therapy (may take a while).
if it's a nerve, you don't think a neurosurgeon is a better doc to examine the issue? A sports med doc is usually an orthopedic surgeon.
