Is it ok to asking several profs at the same time for a letter of reference on short notice?

    I'm now in a dilemma. I got an offer for a field trip which I would kill for and I have paid the deposit, which isn't cheap. The application deadline (which I was only informed a few hours ago) is due in two weeks, on 2nd March. I have to get a letter of reference from a professor by then, but it's hard to contact them right now because public holidays are starting on the day after tomorrow. If I do it after the holiday then I'll have less than 6 days until the deadline. I have emailed a prof, asking for an appointment but haven't got back any response. Is it ok to ask a few more profs in case I don't get any replies or get rejected by said prof?

    No. I would say it´s in bad taste to ¨hedge your bets¨ (as you´re asking). Your professor will check his/her email. He/she will get back in touch with you. Relax.

    Assuming you´re asking the right person based on your relationship with that professor, he/she should have no problem writing you a recommendation (esp. if you come correct & explain yourself). Sure, he/she might--just might--roll his/her eyes & take a quick jab at your last minute heroics, but should be willing to do it without hesitation.

    I really don´t think you have too much to worry about. Professors/teachers usually have a pretty standard letter of recommendation that can be churned out pretty quickly.

    I know that a month or more would be ideal, but the problem was that my offer wasn't confirmed until earlier. Had I asked before that and not got the offer, I would have been wasting everyone's time. Also I can't forge it because the letter has to be sent from a prof's institutional email address.
