Your lifestyle choices are why you spend so much money.
-Dental and vision insurance are usually a waste of money. Pay as you go can be a lot cheaper.
-Car $490? I hope this is for two cars. There's no reason you can't live on a $250/month/car payment for five years. Once the car is paid off then drive it another five years and buy your next car in cash. Put $50/month into a savings plan for repairs, tires, etc. Don't buy a car unless you expect to drive it at least 10 years. If you have a 50 mile commute and most of it is highway then you should be able to get at least 150,000 miles out of any car. Have you considered ride sharing?
-Your insurance will cost less if your car is an older model.
-Phone $184? You should be able to get a plan for $50 or less per phone. We pay about $15/month for Tracfones on our smart phones. I don't need a fancy data plan because I have internet at the house and work.
-Utilities - I don't know about your living arrangement but in the winter you can easily survive on thermostat settings of 66 degrees and in the summer on 75 degrees.
-Day care - I assume you are a single parent and children are not school age and that's why you pay $600. If your spouse and you are both working, and you're only bringing in $6174, then you're probably better off with one of you staying home with the kids and saving on daycare, car, gas, etc.
-$200 for gas because of a 100 mile round trip commute? Why do you live so far from your workplace? Again, ride sharing?
Implement some of the changes above and you can probably triple your retirement savings contributions.
