Quick backstory: Ran in Brooks while I was a hobby jogger/triathlete for about 8 years, then after qualifying for Boston and getting more serious into running (70-80 MPW) I had some PF issues that just wouldn't go away. After kicking and screaming I tried some Hoka Clifton and almost instantly the added cushioning and lower heel to toe drop helped. Been two years now running primarily in Hoka and my last two marathon cycles I have had some hip issues which I am starting to think are Hoka related. Reason being when I do my faster uptempo stuff I go with a Nike racing flat and my stride seems to be more fluid resulting in less stress on my hips. My easy run pace has slowed about 15-30s per mile which in the big picture is fine, however not if my stride is altered to achieve that.
So my thinking is that the added cushioning has given me a false sense of security in my stride as well as less stability resulting in the stress on the hip. Even the few top pro runners who wear them seem to favor the Tracer which is more similar to a standard running shoe then what Hoka is known for. Any one else gone Hoka for extended period of time and gone back?
