Tried out the Altra Vanish-R today in my normal size for Altra shoes.
Here are a few things I've noticed about it:
1. The shoes are not built like normal altra shoes. They are not nearly as wide and the middle part is way too tight. I had to take out the insoles to get the shoes on because the upper was pressing down on my foot too much. It feels like they took women's shoes and tried to make them unisex. It was hard to get the shoes on because the middle is so snug.
2. The upper is way too thin and I feels like it's going to rip after not many miles. I all of my training in racing flats and these wouldn't last long at all.
3. The upper heel part of the shoe feels like it may dig into the achilles, not a big deal as a lot of shoes do this so I usually just cut that part of the shoe off.
4. They put extra padding on the inside part of the forefoot. This wasn't that noticeable but it was a little annoying.
Hopefully Altra fixes some of these problems in their future racing flats. I was really looking forward to these shoes and felt like they had a ton of potential but I think I will be returning mine. Really just fixing the upper will fix most of their problems.
