What is better? Everyone can agree D1 and D2 are the top two. I say its NAIA because they offer athletic scholarships.

It depends on the school and individual.
There are NAIA schools that make more sense than D2 schools, even than some D1 schools.
The question is which is better at running? I just clicked through TFFRS to discover that D3 is quite a bit ahead of NAIA in the mile and 3k. Some parts of the country are more dominated by D3 and some it is NAIA so that would be a factor in choosing a college.
The factors in choosing a college should have athletics last. Pick a college that is a good fit for you and offers you an opportunity to run. Picking a college based only on sports is a BAD idea.
I completely agree. however, I will always go to the school with the better running program if they have similar opportunities and academics. Running will be a factor because I care about it!
Their athletic scholarships are insane and they have wayyyyy less of the stupid rules the NCAA has.

Grinnell, Cornell College, and Wartburg, Luther or Coe are way better academically than Dordt, Northwestern Iowa or Buena Vista.
Quick look at TFRRRS shows that this many NAIA runners met the NCAA III national qualifying mark (top 20) 1500, 3 - 5K, 5 - 10K, 4 - Steeple, 4. Pretty big difference.
D3 >>> NAIA.
Yes they give scholarships but just a quick look over national qualifying times shows that D3 is generally faster (aside from some outliers near the top). Many NAIA schools are switching over to NCAA D2 schools. APU, Malone, and Cal Baptist did (then are switching to D1). NAIA is fading and the performances show it. Academically no NAIA school compares with some of the top D3 schools (though I can say the same for D2).
Is this even a question? NAIA is garbage...Google search "ashford university lawsuit" for a lesson in why scholarship money means crap if your diploma sucks. Yes, there are a few good NAIA schools, but those schools are moving to NCAA
If you choose to go to an NAIA school you deserve the education you get.
