Seriously these guys sprinted out the last mile, is it recorded how quick this last mile split was?

Last 2.2 k in 6:31 so nothing crazy fast. 4:47 mile pace.
The final mile was ~4:31, 2.2km is 1.3 miles, they didn't sprint until they got to around .85 to the finish.
If either had the strength or speed of Galen Rupp they would have been well ahead of that pace.

I'm triggered by this.

If Galen had the balls that Sammy had, I’d be a Galen fan. I’m glad Galen is doing as well as he has but he is no Sammy Wanjiru. Sammy as a teenager would crush Rupp at his best in the 10k. And in the marathon, Beijing 2008 was extraordinary. Rupp is no Sammy Wanjiru.
6:31 / 2.195 km = 391 / 1.36391 miles = 4:47 pace
Agreed--but if both were in their prime--I imagine that if Wanjiru and Kipchoge were racing each other then you have ap epic battle expecially if Geb or Bekele were thrown into the mix
You’re kidding right? wrote:

Wanjiru's Olympic race was one of the boldest if not the boldest marathon races ever, that setting, that venue and the weather conditions. Period.

What he was saying is that they went much faster in the last mile ...take out the first 600 meters.
