We all said that last January when Principe ran 4 minutes. That is still his PR more than a year later.

Hate to say it, but if someone could have got Brannigan fully off the track Hastey would have easily gone sub 4. Lost a couple steps which would have covered the .06.
Do you guys have a vid of the race?

Why is everyone scared to say what a horrible pacer Brannigan is? Is it a PC thing? Crap pacing duties is crap pacing duties.
That's impressive and he's got his head on straight and not freaking out! He will get it if he stays fit. What I'd really like to see him do later this Spring, is for him to go sub 8:34 for the legitimate American HS 2 mile record!
What’s Hastey’s training like? Everybody says he runs 100 miles per week but I haven’t seen an interview where he states that.
Once again the meme of misspelling a top runner's name in the thread title is upheld.

Who is everybody? I haven't heard of anyone it that group doing that much.
I would like to see him racing against Hoey, Hengst, etc. the whole idea of running a race every weekend against pro and college athletes seems over the top. His private coach is using him for publicity and is going to burn him out. He is in shape. If he was going to break 4 mins, he would have done it at the armory against pris running 3:57. Time to enjoy high school and prepare for Oregon without mental or physical burnout.
It was a real toss-up to me whether Hoey would've been able to beat him in the same race. Hoey looked great and he certainly is able to run a 4:01 or 4:02 if not faster.
Very few HS boys have run 4:01. We now act like anybody who can run 4:06 can run 4:01. Every second is much harder than the previous one to cut. I predict that Hoey will not run that fast.

His name is Hasty. How would you feel if everyone kept referring to you as "Dumbasse"?

Hoey is definitely in sub 4:05 shape. I don’t think he beats Hasty though. If what I heard was correct about Hasty being sick, 1:54, 2:27, and 4:03 are really impressive for a few “off days.”
Who knows though, if Hoey went through 1200 in 2:59, I don’t think we’d see him breathing too hard. If given the opportunity, a sub 4 by him wouldn’t be a shock... he is going to Oregon after all.

He didn’t break 4 because the pacer was not good at his job. Brannigan has been known to be uneven in his splits. If you watch the race video you can see Brannigan getting shoved off by the track because he was getting in the way. And then he steps back onto the track. Brodey had the skill to avoid a collision. Most likely because his coach talked to him (and all his athletes )of all the possible things that could potentially happen in a race.
He has not raced every weekend against pros and college athletes. Just Dr. Sanders and Millrose which he was invited to race in the Invitational race.
Appears Hasty races far less then HS athletes that run for their high school.
As for publicity, all coaches that have a top athlete get publicity.
