Hi Guys.
I recently did a 10 miler in 5:55 pace with an average puls of 154. My max puls is 199, I'm running around 70 miles per week, most of them very slow, trying to increase carefully. I'm aiming for a sub 2:40 marathon this year. 31 years old.
The puls seems to be pretty good ( = low ) for me even though the effort seemed quite high. Normally I don't care too much about my puls but now I'm a bit curious about training physiology.
What does it mean if the puls is relatively low but the effort is high ? I know that many might yell at me now i should throw that puls strap away. But just theoretically , assuming the measurement is sort of accurate , does it tell me I need to add some speed work now to make that 5:55 feel easier or should I try to increase my milage to be able to run with that puls just longer than 10 miles ?
( I know that I need to do both to become a better runner. But what does it mean that the puls is low though the effort is high ? )
Thanks !!!
