Flying to Chicago from the East coast for the marathon in October. Would it be too risky to fly Saturday, the day before the race or should I just plan on heading out Friday? Thanks.

Personal decision, but I always travel two days before. There are a few reasons:
First, flying usually leaves me feeling cruddy the next day, so I would rather that happen on my 4 miler the day before the race than on race day.
Secondly, there is obviously the risk that something happens to your flight and it is delayed or cancelled, which would throw several layers of stress onto an already stressful situation.
Finally, kind of related to my second point, I like to get to the expo early and get my bib and then get out of Dodge. You could miss the expo and not be able to get your bib if your flight is delayed; and even if you don't miss it, having to rush in and deal with the last minute crowds could be stressful and could mean time on your feet late into the day on the day before race day.
I would take a late morning flight Friday. Check into your hotel and then get over to McCormick center to pick up your bib. McCormick center can be a pain to get to and you will be on your feet a fair amount to pick up your bib so I would get it over with Friday and then wake up Saturday and relax for the day.
Appreciate it. That's what I was leaning, but I'm cheap.
You've probably put in a lot of time and money over the months leading up to the race. Don't be cheap with a fraction of the time and money you've already invested and jeopardize everything. Perspective.
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
