Hey guys, my name is Liam. I've only been running for around 2 months on my school track team for winter track season. There weren't tryouts so it was easy to get in. Once I got into the team, I started trying to get really competitive and try to become a strong player for my team. I am a freshman, and I've never run before.
Here is my progression in those two months.
My time trial was 6:08 for the mile; 2:36 for the 800; 1:08 for the 400. It was on 11/27/17
My first meet which was on 12/16, I ran the mile in 5:42
My second meet which was 1/6/18, I ran the 1k in 3:12 (Some calculator said it was equivalent to a 5:20 mile, I think that's too fast).
I currently run 20-30 miles per week, depends on how I feel that week. I am slowly progressing my mileage, I back off when I feel like something isn't right. I stretch before I run, and after my run only if my muscle feels tight. I rarely eat junk food when the season started, I do eat a lot during actual meal time. I don't eat snacks as often, even if I feel hungry I'd wait until the meal time. I get around 9 hours of sleep every day. I take 1-2 days off every week, sometimes I swim or basketball on that rest day, sometimes I don't do anything. I do weight lifting around 2-3 times per week, depending on how I feel.
My easy runs are easy, my tempo runs are at comfortably hard, and my intervals are at my all out. My long runs, I just go anywhere in my county and try to have fun and explore.
I currently got interested in mid-distance races, since that is the combination of both sprint and distance. I want to run a 2:50 1k by the end of this winter season, which is around February/March. Do you guys think it is possible with correct training, healthy lifestyle, and proper rest?
