So it's January and there are no hills in track. But for XC how do you organize your hill workouts?? How do you organize your summer training??
Do you do them? I've been told by people just find a hilly route to run on and go.
XC training is different than track. You have to mix it up on the surfaces in the summer and do hills and more mileage.
Are you asking us or telling us?
Based on what I've read and heard about hills, especially hill sprints, I don't see any reason not to do them in the build-up to track as well as crosss. Most coaches who advocate hills aren't using them primarily to practice running up hills on a cross country course, but to develop explosive power, which is useful in just about any event, with less impact than flat sprints, without worrying about hitting splits, etc. Canova, McMillan and others recommend short hills as a precursor to event-specific speedwork.
Hill work is important for XC and Track training as it builds strength, improves running economy, anaerobic capacity and improves running form.
