How should I train. I have about 4-5 weeks
Don't do what most running hacks do and train your endurance by doing 800m repeats and over distance crap.
Train your 60m. 1 min rest for every 10 meters of distance run in an interval. Your 400m time is based on your 60m. 4-5 weeks is not a ton of time but if at the end of it your speed is good you can try training some endurance. But the key is you got to build speed as your base and then extend from there. Feel me?
All these kids be saying "why am I not getting any faster at 400m even with all this running I've been doing?". I tell them you got to start with speed. Here is a little math for you: if your best 100m time is 12 seconds well 12 secs x 4 = 48 secs. if your 100m PR is 12 secs you'll never be running that 400m in sub 50 secs. You got to get that 100m time down .
Oh yeah and bro, please whatever you do, don't train speed days multiple days in a row. That will just get you over trained know what I'm saying? Throw in some tempo days between those speed sessions. GOt it? K. Good luck fam.
Here is a talk I did in training two different ways for sprinters. https://youtu.be/XSvnXAPZwh4 Also, you could pick up the Sprinter's Compendium for step by step training. I hope the video points you in the right direction.
